Brida

Hello readers, and welcome back to my blog...

As i had mentioned in my last post, i just finished reading ‘Brida’ by Paulo Coelho, and i had also said that there were a few things that i would like to paraphrase and discuss from that book, well here is that article. Anyone who has not yet read the book and plans to do so in the near future, please don’t read any further SPOILER ALERT...

Well, this is a part almost halfway through the book, this is the conversation between Wicca and Brida. Wicca is a witch in the book who made Brida realise that she is a witch too and became her teacher to open the eyes of her soul. The following is what Wicca says to Brida when she was having some doubts about what to wear at her initiation into the witches circle:

“ Never stop having doubts. If you ever do, it will be because you have stopped moving forward, and at that point, God will step in and pull the rug from under your feet, because that is His way of controlling His chosen ones, by making sure that they follow their appointed paths till the end. If, for any reason, we stop, whether out of complacency, laziness or out of a mistaken belief that we know enough, He forces us on.

On the other hand, you must be careful never to allow doubt to paralyse you. Always take the decisions that you need to take, even if you’re not sure that you’re doing the right thing. You will never go wrong if, when you make a decision, you keep in mind an old German proverb that the Tradition of the Moon [is one of the two traditions of how to cross over from the visible world into the invisible. The other being the tradition of the Sun. More details later...] has adopted; ‘The devil is in the detail’. Remember that proverb and you will always be able to turn a wrong decision into a right one.”

They were riding in a car which Wicca had recently bought. I would like to take you through their conversation further as it just gets better.

Wicca suddenly stopped outside a garage.

“There’s a superstition connected to that proverb too. It comes to our aid when we need it. I have just brought this car and the devil is in the detail.”

She then spoke to the mechanic who came over to inspect the car for any faults. Both of them, meanwhile, went over to a coffee shop just opposite to the garage and ordered two cups of hot chocolate.

                “Watch what the mechanic does”

The mechanic opened the bonnet of the car and stood there just looking at it, not moving at all.

“He is not touching anything. He’s just looking. He’s done this job for years, and he knows that the car speaks to him in a special language. It’s not his reason that is working now, it’s his intuition.”
Suddenly, the mechanic went to one particular part of the engine and started fiddling with it.

‘He’s found the fault. He din’t waste a moment, because between him and the car, there is perfect communion. Every good mechanic i have known, does the same. “

“So have i thought Brida. But she’d always assumed that they behaved in this way because they never knew where to start. She never noticed that they always started at the right place.”

“If they have the wisdom of the Sun in their lives, why don’t they try to understand the fundamentals of the Universe? Why do they prefer to fix cars on work in bars serving coffee? said Brida.”

“And what makes you think that we, with our path and our dedication, understand the Universe any better than other people? I have many students. They’re all perfectly ordinary people, who cry at the movies and worry if their children are late home, even though they know that death is not the end. Witchcraft is merely one way of being close to the Supreme Wisdom, but anything you do can lead you there, as long as you work with love in your heart. We witches can converse with the soul of the world, see the point of light above the left shoulder of our soul mate, contemplate the infinite through the glow and silence of a candle, but we don’t understand car engines. They find their bridge across to the invisible through car engine, we find our through the Tradition of the Moon, but the bridge connects us to the same invisible world.

Play your part and don’t worry about what others do. Believe that god speaks to them, and they are as engaged as you are in discovering the meaning of life.”

Another very important part which needs to be mentioned here for better understanding and contemplation of the above mentioned text is as follows:

When Brida asked the magus (a different person-look up the meaning of the word) as to what magic is, he replied: “Magic is a bridge, a bridge that lets you walk over form the visible word to the invisible world and to learn the lessons of both these worlds. There are two forms of crossing the bridge, the Tradition of the Sun which teaches the secrets through space and the world that surrounds us, and Traditions of the Moon, which teaches through time and the things that are imprisoned in time’s memory.”

I know my dear readers that this post has been rather a long one. I hope i have not bored you through it and also wish that you would have enjoyed the essence of this article as i did. Discussions and doubts always welcome.

More soon,
Do videnja.
